Meet Pinto the Pint Size Frenchie
Pinto is a fabulous little French Bulldog currently settling into his foster home, where he is decompressing after being moved from home to home over the past year. Despite being only four years old, Pinto has already lived in five different homes.
Pinto came to us as a local owner surrender due to severe separation anxiety, a limp in his back end, and a cut on his front paw. Since arriving, he has been examined by our veterinary team and requires airway (BOAS) surgery. This surgery was recommended when he was a puppy and was originally planned to be completed at the time of his neuter, but due to financial constraints, it was never done.
Our goal is to help Pinto feel his very best, and the first step will be getting his BOAS surgery completed. He is also being treated with medication for what appears to be an IVDD-related injury at the L1-L2 region of his spine. In addition, Pinto has recently started Reconcile (Fluoxetine) to help with separation anxiety. This medication is being used alongside a structured behaviour modification plan to help him become more comfortable and confident when left alone.
Home Requirements
Another Dog: Pinto would do best in a home with another well-mannered canine companion. He has not been cat tested while in our care, but we understand he has previously lived successfully with cats.
Activity Level: Pinto enjoys daily walks of approximately 30–45 minutes. Due to his current back issues, he is on some strict activities & will never be a high-impact sport dog, doing agility just isn’t in his future.
Standalone Home (No Shared Walls): Pinto currently barks when left alone, so he would do best in a detached home rather than an apartment, condo, or townhouse with shared walls.
Fully Fenced Yard (5–6 ft): A secure, fully fenced yard is preferred.
A Family Committed to Ongoing Training: Pinto is an intelligent, eager-to-please little guy who already knows his basic commands and even a few extra tricks. He thrives with routine, enrichment, plenty of toys, and the mental stimulation that training provides. He will do best with a family committed to continuing his separation anxiety training using positive reinforcement, consistency, and clear structure. With the right guidance, Pinto will continue to grow into an exceptional companion.
Personality & Behaviour
Playful: Pinto loves bulldog-style zoomies, tug-of-war, and wrestling with his dog friends. Fetch is his favourite game, but bringing it back isn’t always in the cards, especially with his current back condition.
Affectionate: He absolutely loves attention and enjoys being close to his people.
Confident: Pinto takes new experiences in stride and has no issues with stairs, car rides, or travelling. He makes a wonderful adventure buddy.
