Peanut Butter – A Gentle Giant with a Ball Obsession!

Peanut Butter – A Gentle Giant with a Ball Obsession!
Meet Peanut Butter! This handsome 6-year-old Olde English Bulldogge is a sweet, gentle giant weighing in at 64 lbs of love! He’s long, low to the ground, and has the cutest little tail. He’s basically a short giant with a whole lot of heart packed into one adorable package. ❤️
Recently neutered and having just had a dental that resulted in seven teeth being removed, Peanut Butter is ready to start his next chapter and find a home where he can enjoy life’s adventures.
Peanut Butter is a well-mannered gentleman who knows his basic commands and loves getting out for walks, exploring, and spending time with his people. He’s a great car passenger and is always happy to tag along for a ride.
And then there’s his absolute favourite thing in the world: BALLS! 🎾
Peanut Butter is a fetch enthusiast through and through. Throw a ball, and he’ll be right there to chase it down! Bringing it back to you consistently? Well, let’s just say his retrieving skills are still a work in progress. 😂 He loves all kinds of toys, from big toys and stuffies to chew toys, but if you want to make his day, bring out a ball.
He’s also convinced he’s a lap dog. At 64 lbs, his idea of personal space might be a little different from yours, but when a dog this sweet wants to cuddle, it’s pretty hard to argue!
Home Requirements
Peanut Butter needs a home with a fully secured, escape-proof fenced yard. This is a very important requirement for his placement.
Peanut Butter is an escape artist who would happily head out on an independent adventure if given the opportunity. Whether the gate gets left open, someone isn’t paying attention, or he discovers a way out, this boy may decide he’s off to explore the neighbourhood. His future home must have secure fencing, reliable gates, and a commitment to keeping him safely contained.
Peanut Butter loves his walks and adventures, so he’ll need a family who enjoys getting out with him while also understanding his physical limitations and pending airway surgery.
Other dogs: Peanut Butter came into care with a female Olde English Bulldogge, Jam, to whom he is very attached. Despite their close bond, he can be separated from her and does quite well on his own. We are still learning about his compatibility with other dogs, and he doesn’t care for little dogs. For now, a home where he can be the only dog may be the best fit. A carefully selected female companion may be possible, as we know he does well with Jam, but any introductions and potential matches will need to be assessed individually.
Cats and small animals: A home without small animals is recommended.
Children: A home without small children would be best for Peanut Butter.
His ideal home will offer secure outdoor space, plenty of opportunities for safe adventures, a comfortable place to relax, and someone who understands that even a gentle giant needs thoughtful management and supervision.
Medical Needs
Peanut Butter is recently neutered and has had a dental procedure during which seven teeth were removed. He’s now working through the next steps in his medical journey.
BOAS airway surgery is still pending. Peanut Butter has a very long soft palate that affects his breathing, particularly when exercising. Although he enjoys his walks and can manage a solid 45 minutes to an hour of walking, his breathing limitations need to be taken seriously. His activity should be appropriate for his comfort and breathing ability, with rest breaks as needed. His future family will need to understand his airway condition and follow veterinary guidance regarding exercise, especially while surgery is pending.
Peanut Butter also has reduced muscle tone in his hind end. We would like to see this improve gradually through appropriate activity, good nutrition, and time. The good news is that Peanut Butter is a great eater! We don’t anticipate convincing him to finish his meals will be a challenge. With a balanced diet and an exercise plan suited to his breathing and physical condition, we hope to help him build strength and muscle over time.
His medical journey isn’t finished yet, and his future home will need to be comfortable continuing to work with Victoria Bulldog Society as we support his needs and determine the next steps in his care.
Personality & Behavior
Peanut Butter is a sweet, gentle, well-mannered boy with a big heart and an even bigger love for toys.
He knows his basic commands and enjoys spending time with his people. Walks and adventures are high on his list of favourite activities, and he’s a fantastic companion for car rides. Whether you’re heading out for a little adventure or simply relaxing at home, Peanut Butter is happy to be included.
His true passion, however, is fetch. Big balls, little balls, squeaky balls — Peanut Butter is here for all of them! He loves his stuffies and chew toys, too, but the ball definitely holds the top spot. Just don’t expect a perfect return every time. He may retrieve the ball, he may wander off with it, or he may decide the game is now about convincing you to throw another one. Either way, he’s having a great time!
Peanut Butter also has a softer side. He loves affection and genuinely believes that being a 64 lb lap dog is a perfectly reasonable arrangement. If you’re looking for a companion who wants to be close to his people, this boy may be right up your alley.
On walks, Peanut Butter tends to avoid other dogs rather than seek them out. We’re still getting to know his full social preferences, so we won’t make assumptions about how he’ll do with every dog he meets. We do know that small dogs aren’t his preference, and his future home should be prepared to give him space on walks and allow introductions to happen thoughtfully.
Peanut Butter came into care with Jam, and their connection is special. However, he can manage being on his own, so he doesn’t necessarily need to be adopted with her.
Underneath his big body and love of adventure is a gentle boy who wants to enjoy life, spend time with his people, and have someone throw his ball approximately a thousand times a day.
Seeking a Foster or Foster-to-Adopt Home
Peanut Butter is looking for a committed foster or foster-to-adopt home on southern Vancouver Island where he can continue his medical journey with the guidance and support of Victoria Bulldog Society.
His future home will need to provide a fully secured yard, understand his breathing limitations, and be prepared to support him as we work toward his pending BOAS surgery and gradually build his hind-end strength.
We are still learning more about Peanut Butter’s compatibility with other dogs, so a home where he can be the only dog would be ideal while we continue assessing his needs. He may be able to live with a carefully matched female dog, but this would need to be evaluated on an individual basis.
In return, you’ll get a gentle giant who loves adventures, enjoys car rides, has impeccable basic manners, and will happily try to convince you that every couch is his personal bed and every ball belongs to him.
If you have a securely fenced yard, room in your heart for a 64 lb cuddle bug, and a willingness to help him through his medical journey, we’d love to hear from you! ❤️
