Olive the Great One Eyed English Bulldog
Meet Beautiful Pirate Olive she is a sweet, sensitive 5–7-year-old spayed English Bulldog with a gentle soul, a charming personality, and a heart full of love. Despite everything she has been through, Olive remains a sweet, resilient girl who is ready to find a family willing to help her continue her journey.
Olive came into our care as a local owner surrender due to mounting medical expenses. When she arrived, she was experiencing intermittent vomiting, significant pain, and ongoing gastrointestinal issues. Our veterinary team quickly stepped in to investigate, and X-rays revealed what we suspected—a foreign object lodged in her stomach.
Olive was urgently scheduled for surgery, and thankfully our incredible veterinary team was able to remove a large window suction cup through an endoscopic procedure, avoiding the need for invasive abdominal surgery. The relief was immediate. Since the procedure, Olive has been feeling dramatically better, her pain has resolved, and she has been able to discontinue the extensive medications she arrived on.
Olive’s Health Journey
Now that the foreign object has been removed, our focus has shifted to helping Olive achieve a healthier weight. Olive currently carries some extra pounds, which places additional stress on her body, particularly her hips and knees.
She has been diagnosed with hip dysplasia and has some instability in one of her knees. Our orthopedic specialists would like to see how she moves after losing weight before making any decisions regarding future surgery. There is a possibility that her mobility may improve enough that surgery will not be necessary, but her adopters should be prepared for the possibility of future orthopedic care.
Olive also requires daily tail pocket cleaning, sometimes twice daily, to keep her comfortable and prevent irritation. Thankfully, her facial wrinkles are in excellent condition and require only routine maintenance.
Personality & Behaviour
Olive is a loving, affectionate bulldog who thrives on companionship and reassurance. While she enjoys being close to her people, she is also learning that the world isn’t quite as scary as it sometimes seems.
She can be nervous in new environments and is easily startled by many everyday household items. Things such as bicycles, toasters, blinds, and other common sights and sounds can make her uneasy. Because of this, Olive will need a patient family willing to continue building her confidence through positive reinforcement, consistency, and gentle encouragement.
Every day she is becoming a little braver, and watching her confidence grow has been incredibly rewarding.
