Grandma – A Sweet Senior English Bulldog Living Her Best Life in a Forever Foster Home… But Could There Be a Perfect Match Out There?
Meet Grandma! Grandma is an incredibly calm, sweet, and lovable senior English Bulldog, at 12 years young. When she first came into our care, she was in rough shape—morbidly obese, suffering from severe arthritis, and plagued by dental disease with exposed roots, which required major dental surgery. Despite her challenges, Grandma has been thriving under dedicated care and attention. She’s now on pain management, daily eye drops, and ear treatments, all of which she will need for the rest of her life.
Grandma is currently in a loving forever foster home with one of our directors, where she is adored and well cared for. However, if the perfect forever home came along, we would consider moving her—but we are very strict about what she needs in a home due to her special medical and mobility needs.
Grandma’s Needs & Challenges
Grandma is deaf and has long-term ear infections. Her vision is extremely limited—she can detect some light in one eye, but has no depth perception and is effectively blind. She cannot navigate stairs safely, but she has learned to use a low dog ramp to enter and exit her foster home.
She needs:
A single-level home with no stairs.
A flat, fully fenced yard for safe outdoor time with access from the inside with no stairs.
Someone home most of the time to provide her with attention and administer her eye drops throughout the day.
An adopter or foster able to lift 55 lbs easily, as she occasionally needs assistance and can be uneasy when lifted.
A Day in Grandma’s Life
Despite her medical history, Grandma has a zest for life! She loves spending time outside in the sun and doesn’t mind a little rain. She’s gradually increasing her walking ability and has embraced the dog stroller for longer outings. Grandma currently enjoys 2–3 short walks a day (10–20 minutes each), where she loves sniffing around and exploring her surroundings.
Grandma also delights in using snuffle mats and interactive food toys, which stimulate her keen sense of smell. She’s even shown an interest in chewing, though her bad teeth limit her enjoyment for now—we know she’ll be even happier after her dental work!
She is fostered with other dogs and prefers calm environments. While she tolerates other dogs, she likes to keep her distance and doesn’t appreciate dogs getting in her face. She is currently in a foster home with children and does well, but she would likely prefer a quieter, retirement-style home where she can relax without dodging toy monster trucks.
What We Provide
All of Grandma’s needs—including medications, veterinary care, food, supplies, and ongoing support—are fully covered by the Victoria Bulldog Society during fostering or foster-to-adopt.
