Meet Dwayne “The Dog” Johnson: Our Handsome, Strong Hunk
Meet Dwayne “The Dog” Johnson: Our Handsome, Strong Hunk
Dwayne is a fabulous Olde English Bulldogge mix looking for his forever home!
He came into our care after being found severely underweight in a rural BC community. Thanks to our friends at Straight Outta Rescue Society, who do incredible work in remote areas, Dwayne was given a second chance and transferred to us.
When he arrived, it was clear life hadn’t been easy—he was emaciated, under muscled, and had a broken tooth. But what stood out immediately was his spirit: strong, resilient, and full of heart. Despite everything, Dwayne is joyful, affectionate, and determined to make the most of life—super strong, just like his namesake.
Since then, Dwayne has received full vet care, including vaccines, microchip, deworming, flea/tick treatment, and bloodwork. His results showed malnutrition, but nothing long-term or concerning. He has already gained about 6 pounds and is expected to gain another 6 before reaching his healthy weight. Once Dwayne was stable, he underwent neutering and dental surgery. Due to some regurguritation we confirmed that Dwayne has a sliding hiatal hernia that requires some medication to help him not regurgitate. Now, that all his medical has been sorted out he’s thriving on a high-quality raw diet, with some kibble, and supplements to continue to rebuild his strength.
Timeline: Dwayne is now ready for full time foster home or foster-to-adopt.
Home Requirements
Dwayne is a big personality in a medium package. Even while underweight, his strength was impressive, and now that he’s gaining healthy muscle, he’s only getting stronger. He’ll need:
Active Level: Dwayne is a pretty lazy bulldog in the morning, but he can run a good 3-5 km and walk for an hour, no problem, daily.
Standalone home (no shared walls): Dwayne has the deepest, booming bark we’ve ever heard—it’s part of his charm, but not for apartments, condos, or townhomes.
Fully fenced yard (5–6 ft): He’s curious and adventurous. While recall is improving, he’s not ready to be off-leash, so an escape-proof yard is a must.
Another well-mannered, social dog: He thrives with dog buddies. Dwayne is respectful with seniors, but wrestles hard with other bullies.
A family committed to training: He came to us knowing no basic commands—not even “sit.” He’s learning fast, but will need ongoing positive reinforcement training and structure.
Not suitable for: apartments/condos, homes without fenced yards, or families with very young children (he can bulldoze his way past little ones).
Medical Needs
Medication for his sliding hiatal hernia.
Wrinkle and tail pocket cleaning to prevent infection.
Ongoing high-quality raw diet + supplements.
Regular vet care.
Personality & Behavior
Playful: Bulldog-style zoomies, tug-of-war, and toy tossing are his favourites.
Affectionate: Greets you with full-body wiggles or a full smack down, bulldog groans, and couch snuggles.
Confident: No issues with stairs, cars, or travel—he’s a great adventure buddy.
Strong-willed: Like his namesake, he doesn’t back down. Sometimes he’ll push past people or kids to get where he wants to be. This is not aggression, just determination that needs structure.
Adaptable: Respects smaller and senior dogs, adjusts his energy to companions.
Why Dwayne?
Dwayne “The Dog” Johnson isn’t for everyone—but for the right home, he’s everything. He’s strong, goofy, loyal, and endlessly entertaining. He’ll need a family who can provide patience, training, and consistency, but in return, he’ll give you his whole heart.
Dwayne’s resilience and joy, despite his past, make him unforgettable. He’ll keep you laughing with his antics, join you on adventures, and be the most loyal snuggle buddy you could ask for.
